News / Halifax Stanfield introduces advanced screening technology
Making security checks faster, smoother, and more convenient

Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) has become the first airport in Atlantic Canada to deploy the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority’s (CATSA) cutting-edge computed tomography (CT) X‑ray technology.
Available at the Domestic/International checkpoint, the newly installed screening line enables passengers to leave liquids, aerosols, gels (up to 100 mL each), large electronics – including laptops – and medical devices inside their carry-on bags, significantly reducing the need to unpack and repack items during security processing.
The installation of this new technology is part of CATSA’s national deployment program, which aims to introduce CT X-ray systems to screening lines at several airports over a multi-year period.
CT technology utilizes advanced three-dimensional rotatable images, enhancing screening officers’ ability to detect explosives and other threat items.
CATSA plans to continue collaborating with Halifax Stanfield to deploy CT technology on all screening lines.
