News / Now landing in - Scotland!? British Airways' Germany flight gets confused!
What's most important while travelling? Arriving in the right destination, of course!
British Airways had a scheduled flight to Germany on Monday, March 26. It was a normal flight, really. Short and sweet.
Everything seemed fine, but then they landed.
In Scotland.
Wrong city, wrong country. The airport staff in Edinburgh, Scotland were confused, the British Airways crew was confused, and the passengers were confused. The entire situation is very bizarre.
How did this happen?
The British Airways flight from London City Airport was supposed to head to Duesseldorf, Germany, but ended up in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. The problem started when an incorrect flight plan was filed by WDL Aviation, which operated the flight on behalf of British Airways. Reportedly, the pilot followed the flight plan for Edinburgh, and that air traffic control officials also were following the same flight plan and saw nothing amiss.
While this is arguably hilarious for anyone not affected by this flight, it does raise a lot of questions about communication and best practices.
