A new update from the Maui Visitors Bureau includes visitor tips that travellers can take to heart.

The update comes just over a month after wildfires devastated the beautiful and historic town of Lahaina.

As announced earlier this month by Hawaii Governor Josh Green, the West Maui communities of Kaanapali, Napili, Honokowai and Kapalua will fully reopen on October 8.

In the meantime, travellers are encouraged to visit other areas of Maui including Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei, Wailea, Makena, Paia, Haiku, Makawao and Hana.

“No one in Hawaii will ever forget the tragedy that our friends, families, loved ones, and colleagues in Lahaina are enduring,” said Daniel Nahoopii, Chief Administrative Officer of the Hawaii Tourism Authority. “The response from residents statewide and by people around the world to support Maui’s recovery has been incredible and inspiring. Now is the time for people everywhere to show their support for Maui by booking trips, making restaurant reservations, and frequenting Maui’s retail stores and attractions that support workers and their families.”

The update also included these four tips for visitors considering Maui to help care for the island, keep residents employed and local businesses open, and support the community’s wellbeing …

• Come with compassion – “The people of Maui need your compassion and support. Please be respectful and mindful in our island home.”
• Help Maui recover – “While West Maui is not accessible to visitors at this time, we strongly encourage travelers to visit the rest of Maui and the other Hawaiian Islands.”
• Support local – “Support Maui’s shops and restaurants, farmers’ markets, tours and activities, and festivals and events. Your dollars will support local employees and businesses.”
• Donate to Maui – “If you would like to provide a monetary donation in support of ongoing relief efforts on Maui, please visit mauinuistrong.info.”
