Costa Cruises is celebrating its 77th anniversary on March 31 with a limited-time “Birthday Sale” promotion, offering reduced fares starting at US$418 per person on select 2025 Mediterranean sailings.

Travellers who book by April 23, 2025, can choose from a variety of itineraries aboard eight ships, departing between June and November.

Guests will have the opportunity to join Costa in commemorating this milestone while exploring the Mediterranean, a region the cruise line has been sailing for decades. Featured itineraries include eight-day cruises across the western and eastern Mediterranean, as well as voyages to northern Europe.

Exclusive savings

Costa’s Birthday Sale applies to a range of sought-after Mediterranean itineraries, including:

  • Costa Smeralda: Roundtrip from Barcelona, visiting Cagliari, Naples, Civitavecchia (Rome), and Genoa, Italy, as well as Marseille, France. Featured sailings include June 25 and Sept. 7, 2025.
  • Costa Toscana: Roundtrip from Barcelona, with stops in Ibiza or Palma, Spain; Civitavecchia (Rome), Savona, and Palermo, Italy; and Marseille, France. Featured departures include June 17, July 1, and Sept. 30, 2025.

A legacy of ´Firsts´

Founded in Italy, the company can trace its roots back to 1854 when Giacomo Costa established a trading business specializing in olive oil and textiles. On March 31, 1948, Costa launched its first passenger voyage with the Anna C., sailing from Genoa, Italy, to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Over the years, Costa has introduced a series of industry firsts, including offering cruise vacations from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1950, pioneering winter cruising in the Mediterranean in the late 1990s, and launching the first European ship with private balcony cabins in 2000. In 2019, Costa introduced the world’s first cruise ships powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), continuing its commitment to sustainability. Most recently, in January 2025, Costa Smeralda became the first cruise ship to bunker LNG at the port of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Costa also introduced the concept of “Sea Destinations” in 2024, an exclusive initiative that allows guests to experience new destinations from a maritime perspective. Additional achievements include being the first cruise company to proactively publish a sustainability report and the first to offer itineraries from Dubai and the Emirates.

Costa Cruises remains the only Italian-flagged cruise line.
