Trafalgar is offering an immersive 10-day journey through the poignant sites of WWI and WWII across four European countries. June 6th, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings where over 14,000 Canadians took part in the Second World War.
D-Day Beaches and Battlefields 75th Anniversary
Trafalgar has launched a 10-day special interest trip across 4 European countries called D-Day Beaches and Battlefields 75th Anniversary. On this meaningful journey through the battlefields of WWI and WWII, clients will remember the millions of lives lost in these 20th century conflicts.They will explore the poignant moments of the Battle of Britain, D-Day Landing, infamous Somme and the Battle of Dunkirk immortalized forever in the museums, memorials and cemeteries that dot the French, Belgium and Dutch countryside and much more.
Britain
• Starting in London, guests meet fellow companions and Travel Director for a traditional English pub ‘Welcome Dinner’ • Tour the towering Big Ben, the House of Parliament and Westminster Abbey with a ‘Local Specialist' • Visit the Churchill War rooms and get a glimpse into the tunnels of Churchill walked each day to plan Operation Overlord and the Dunkirk rescue • Visit the HMS Belfast and explore this historic World War 2 Battleship and learn the stories of the crew who lived on board • Travelling to Portsmouth, clients will stop at Chartwell House, the fascinating home of Winston Churchill in Kent • Visit the D-Day Museum and see the Overlord Embroidery, the story of D-day and the Battle of Normandy in 34 extraordinary hand-stitched panels with a total length of 83 metres • Guests will then board an overnight ferry, crossing the English Channel to France, enjoying dinner abroad
France
• In Normandy, clients will arrive for the 75th anniversary of the beach landings and attend the ceremonies to commemorate this important day at Juno Beach and enjoy a delicious dinner at their hotel • In Amiens, guests will visit Vimy Ridge Memorial, where The Canadian Corps seized Vimy Ridge in 1917 and say “adieu” to France as they enter Belgium to Ypres • Visit the In Flanders Field Museum to learn more and visit Essex Farm Cemetery where over 1,200 brave servicemen were buried
Netherlands
• In the Netherlands, guests will be in Groesbeek to visit the National Liberation Museum, see the Airborne Memorial John Frost Bridge, and visit the Open Air Museum • The journey ends in Amsterdam and clients will meet with a ‘Local Specialist’ and enjoy a cultural orientation of the city along the canals before enjoying a ‘Be My Guest’ farewell dinner with the Pauw
