1. Transylvania, Romania 

For those who dare to venture further afield, Chelsey Keenan, Owner of Planning Adventures with Chelsey Keenan, recommends Transylvania with its legendary vampire lore. Explore Bran Castle, often associated with Dracula, and immerse yourself in the region's mysterious history. 

2. Salem, Massachusetts 

The Witch City of Salem transforms into a bewitching destination during October. Explore its haunted history, visit the Salem Witch Museum, and join ghost tours for a true Halloween experience. Jill Dosouto, of Just Beachin Vacations, says that everyone dresses in character from that time period, and you can even immerse yourself in a witch trial. 

3. Orlando, Florida 

This theme park paradise really offers something for everyone during spooky season. For the ultimate scream-fest, Nikki Hendrix, Owner Favorite Grampy Travels recommends Universal Orlando's "Halloween Horror Nights," where the boundary between reality and nightmares blur. It's so scary it's recommended for guests 13 years old and up. But for those seeking a more family-friendly Halloween celebration, Bridget Edwards, Concierge Travel Advisor of Let's Travel with Bridget, says to look no further than Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Disney World's Magic Kingdom. From Boo-to-You parades to trick-or-treating with beloved Disney characters, this event offers spooky delights for guests of all ages. 

4. Riviera Maya, Mexico 

Although not specifically Halloween related, Karen Shelton, President & Owner of My Path Unwinding Travel, says Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Riviera Maya is a deeply moving experience. It is a vibrant celebration that honors deceased loved ones with colorful traditions, altars, and delicious food. Dive into the Mexican culture and revel in this unique and beautiful festival. 

5. Virgin Voyages Halloween Cruises  

Rita Perez, Founder of RitaVentures LLC, suggests that if you're looking to keep the kiddos at home, join the special adults-only Halloween sailings aboard Virgin Voyages out of Miami. Their signature Scarlet Night turns into Fright Night that is sure to be filled with spooks and surprises all night long. 

6. Savannah, Georgia 

Savannah's historic streets become even more enchanting during Halloween. With its rich history and spooky tales, it's the perfect destination for ghost tours and exploring the eerie charm of the South. Travel advisor Dina Farmer, of Lily and Magnolia Travel, says travelers definitely won’t want to miss out on the Noble Bones Scavenger Hunt. 

7. New Orleans, Louisiana 

Known for its voodoo culture and eerie cemeteries, Nicole LeBlanc, Owner of Mon Voyage LLC, says New Orleans is a Halloween haven. Explore the French Quarter's haunted history and savor the Creole cuisine while you soak in the supernatural vibes. 

8. Sleepy Hollow, New York
