The Canadian embassy in Cuba has confirmed the unexpected temporary closure of Cayo Largo del Sur airport.
In a series of tweets, the embassy announced that the airport is now closed, for reasons still unknown. The estimated reopening date is February 26, 2020.
Travel to/from the island has been disrupted so travellers are being advised to contact their tour agencies.
The embassy is encouraging travellers to call +53-7204-2516 or +53-7204-2517 for assistance.
