According to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, Canadian-resident return trips from the U.S. totalled 2.6 million in August 2026, up 8.8% vs. August 2025. 

It marked the fifth consecutive month of year-over-year growth. 

It’s important to note that while return trips from the U.S. by car in August 2026 rose 9.9% from August 2025, they were 27.4% lower than in August 2024. 

Likewise, return trips from the U.S. by air in August 2026 increased 3.6% from August 2025, but were 22.7% below August 2024 levels.

Meanwhile Canadian-resident return trips from overseas by air totalled 1.2 million in August 2026, marking a third consecutive month of year-over-year decrease (-2.8%).

All in all, Canadian-resident return trips from abroad (i.e. from the U.S. and overseas countries) by car and air hit 3.7 million in August 2026, up 4.9% from the same month one year earlier.
