Travel.gc.ca has launched the Safe Travel Planner, a free online course created specifically for travel professionals

Travel advisors across Canada now have access to a new professional development tool designed to boost their expertise and enhance client confidence.

Travel.gc.ca has launched the Safe Travel Planner, a free online course created specifically for travel professionals.

The program takes just one hour to complete and provides essential knowledge about government resources available to Canadians abroad. Topics include consular assistance, emergency contacts and destination-specific safety advice.

By completing the course, travel advisors will receive a Safe Travel Planner certificate from Global Affairs Canada, which will show that they’ve taken additional steps to inform themselves and clients of the many Government of Canada services and resources available to them. Advisors will need a score of at least 70% to be certified.

According to Global Affairs Canada, the goal of the program is for advisors to walk their clients through the key tools they need to feel secure while travelling abroad. The wealth of resources available through Travel.gc.ca include real-time updates, emergency notifications and travel advice for over 230 destinations. Advisors will also learn information on required travel documents, travelling with children, safe travel tips for different audiences, and guidance when returning to Canada.

To access the course, go to travel.gc.ca/travelling/safe-travel-planner/intro.
