Outer Shores Expeditions has announced the addition of Ocean Wayfinder, a second small-ship expedition vessel, ahead of its 2026 operating season.

Known for its immersive wildlife and cultural expeditions throughout British Columbia’s coastal regions – including the Great Bear Rainforest, Haida Gwaii, Northern Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands – the operator is increasing its capacity while maintaining its commitment to low-impact, high-engagement travel.

The 70-foot, ketch-rigged Ocean Wayfinder joins Outer Shores’ flagship Passing Cloud, bringing with it enhanced guest space and comfort. Transport Canada-certified and originally designed by Canadian naval architect Stanley C. Huntingford, Ocean Wayfinder was constructed in Vancouver in 1984 and underwent a major renovation in 2003 that modernized its systems and reconfigured its layout.

The vessel includes six private guest cabins, each equipped with portholes, storage and power outlets for charging devices and camera gear. Thoughtful details such as reading lights, quiet corners and a library focused on natural and cultural history invite passengers to unwind and reflect on their experiences. A large main salon and dining area serve as the heart of life aboard. There are also three shared washrooms featuring hot showers, two crew cabins and a well-appointed galley.

Ocean Wayfinder offers extensive deck space and thoughtful design features to accommodate wildlife viewing in varied conditions. A heated wheelhouse provides panoramic views, while a covered aft cockpit with ample seating allows guests to enjoy quiet moments at sea. A transom stairway and swim grid at water level provide easy access for boarding and disembarking the skiff used for daily excursions.

The ship typically sails with 8-12 guests and a crew of four. It’s outfitted with ultra-quiet, low-emission twin diesel engines and an auxiliary generator that supports onboard systems, including hot water, heating, galley appliances and electronics.
