Porter Airlines
Porter Airlines will launch operations at Montreal Metropolitan Airport’s new terminal on June 15, expanding domestic routes and boosting regional air connectivity

Porter Airlines is preparing to launch operations at the new passenger terminal at Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET), with the official opening scheduled for June 15. The airline will serve as the launch carrier, marking a major milestone in expanding air travel options in the Montreal region.

The new terminal is designed to strengthen regional connectivity and provide travellers with a convenient alternative to existing airport infrastructure in Greater Montreal.

A New Gateway for Domestic Travel

The modern terminal at Montreal Metropolitan Airport is located about 15 kilometres from downtown Montreal and is expected to handle up to four million passengers annually once fully operational.

Developed through a partnership between Porter Aviation Holdings and Macquarie Asset Management, the facility features multiple gates, modern passenger amenities, and infrastructure designed to support efficient domestic travel across Canada.

Porter will operate flights using a mix of Embraer E195-E2 and Dash 8-400 aircraft, connecting Montreal to several Canadian cities and strengthening its growing national network.

Expanding Montreal’s Air Travel Options

The opening of the new terminal represents a significant step in expanding Montreal’s aviation capacity and improving accessibility for travellers, particularly those on the South Shore.

Montreal Metropolitan Airport, formerly known as Saint-Hubert Airport, has been repositioned as a commercial passenger airport with a focus on domestic routes and improved regional mobility.

Industry observers see the development as a strategic move that will:

  • increase competition in Montreal’s air travel market
  • provide additional domestic flight options
  • reduce pressure on existing airport infrastructure
  • improve access to regional destinations across Canada

Porter’s Growth Strategy

For Porter Airlines, the new terminal reinforces its broader expansion strategy across Canada. The airline continues to grow its fleet and route network, positioning itself as a strong competitor in the domestic market.

By serving as the launch carrier at Montreal Metropolitan Airport, Porter aims to offer travellers a more efficient and convenient travel experience, while supporting economic development and transportation growth in the region.

Looking Ahead

The June 15 opening marks the beginning of a new chapter for Montreal Metropolitan Airport and Porter Airlines. As operations ramp up, the new terminal is expected to play a key role in enhancing regional connectivity and providing travellers with a modern alternative for domestic air travel.

With increased routes, improved infrastructure, and a strategic location close to the city, the project signals continued investment in Canada’s aviation sector and a stronger future for regional air transportation.
