June 8 - Travelers may be grounded but they’re still dreaming of sun getaways, and the reopening of two popular Cancun resorts – the Riu Palace Peninsula today, and the Riu Cancun next week – is an important symbol of hope for vacations, and bookings, to come.

 

The two properties are the first in RIU’s chain of resorts and hotels to reopen in the Mexican Caribbean. Riu Palace Peninsula reopens today, June 8, and Riu Cancun is set to reopen on June 19. Both are located in Cancun’s famous Hotel Zone.

 

Like hotel companies around the world, RIU closed all of its properties in March, some 99 properties around the globe, including 20 in Mexico.

 

With these openings RIU says it is taking another step towards its goal of gradually resuming its operations worldwide. The company has already opened city hotels in Miami, Berlin and Guadalajara, along with four hotels in Bulgaria.

RIU says its goal is to gradually resume its activity in the multiple destinations in Mexico, including Cancun, Costa Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Los Cabos, Riviera Nayarit, Mazatlán and Guadalajara.
