Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador opened its doors October 1 following a full top-to-bottom, multi-million-dollar reimagination

While there are many ways to experience Oahu, the heart and soul of the island is uncovered by the boots-on-the-ground insights, experiences and insider knowledge that only true neighborhood natives can provide. The antidote to ordinary Oahu itineraries, Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador opened its doors October 1 following a full top-to-bottom, multi-million-dollar reimagination. Formerly known as The Ambassador Hotel Waikiki, the eclectic and spirited hotel debuts as a homebase for visitors looking to experience the island like a local. With views of downtown Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean, the property features an array of room types, creative design, unique programming and easy access to the island's legendary outdoor activities.

For travelers longing for something to explore on O'ahu beyond the surf breaks, Romer introduces a locally conscious experience featuring the art, culture, sounds and experiences that make Honolulu great.

Guestrooms

Every Romer guest journey begins with artfully designed key cards that double as their key to the neighborhood via curated maps, programming and happenings. The 368 easygoing rooms offer a variety of layouts for every type of traveler, from large two-bedroom suites to lofted bunkbed rooms, complemented by a muted pastel color palette peppered with the texture, shades and shapes of Oahu's scenery. Guests can expect private lanais, lounge space, and noteworthy touches such as all-gender uniforms featuring pieces by local Hawaiian designer Matt Bruening. Rates for October start at $179 per night.

Programming and Amenities

The hotel's "Mayor of the Block" is deeply ingrained in the community and prepared to provide guests local insights that aren't found on a standard Google search. Chakra balancing meditations are available for download, astrology readings are bookable through the in-house astrologer, and board games and a beach reads book library are tucked within the lobby. Romer has also partnered with local businesses around the island to create a custom experience for guests; freebies, discounts, personalized experiences and more are all unlocked with the room key.

Design

Thoughtful and distinct design elements capture the spirit that is modern Waikiki along with its roots dating back to the 1960s. New interior décor includes a custom-fit lava rock wall that adorns the perimeter of the lobby to reference Hawaii's volcanic landscape, along with a curated gallery wall featuring local artists such as J.D. Nālamakūikapō Ahsing, Susan Maddux, Brennan Alexa, and Kris Goto.

Entertainment & Dining

A munchies cart with local favorites debuts in the lobby from 8-11 p.m. every night to solve late-night cravings, and a morning coffee cart with locally sourced fare provides fuel before a day of exploring. Coming soon at the third-floor pool, Romer's Waikiki Swim & Social Club will serve up drinks and bites with a grooving and laid-back cabana scene. A new open-air restaurant featuring bright and locally sourced fare will debut in 2024.
