News / Air Canada captures the holiday spirit with magical new film
Combining Canadiana with festive wonder, ‘The Pond’ highlights themes of family, belief and the joy of the holidays, all while celebrating Canada’s cherished national pastime – hockey
Air Canada has released its latest holiday-themed brand film, a heartwarming 90-second tale celebrating the magic of Canada’s winter traditions.
Combining Canadiana with festive wonder, ‘The Pond’ highlights themes of family, belief and the joy of the holidays, all while celebrating Canada’s cherished national pastime – hockey.
The Pond’ follows the story of two hockey-loving sisters eagerly awaiting the freezing of their backyard pond. As the younger sister makes a wish on a shooting star, an Air Canada plane magically appears to transport them to Santa’s workshop at the North Pole. Upon waking at home, they find a gift from Santa – a bottle of holiday magic that transforms their pond into a sparkling skating rink.
“We’re proud to bring a sense of wonder to our holiday storytelling, connecting families and friends as part of a tradition we hold dear,” said Andy Shibata, Vice-President of Brand at Air Canada. “The Pond reflects our love for hockey and our dedication to promoting gender equality in sports and aviation.”
Jeremiah McNama, Executive Creative Director at FCB, described the film as a celebration of the simple pleasures of winter. “It’s a love letter to backyard hockey rinks, lacing up skates, and playing under the glow of holiday lights. And for kids, it’s the ultimate dream – a direct flight to Santa’s workshop!”
The spot is part of Air Canada’s broader efforts to champion women in hockey and inspire a more inclusive future for sports. It reinforces the airline’s mission to bring people together –across ages, genders, and distances – through the unifying power of sport.
