A time to reflect
September 30, 2021 is the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across the land now known as Canada. In recognition, G Adventures invites you to spend time learning and reflecting about the issues affecting Indigeous Peoples and Nations.
With the wisdom and guidance of the As’in’i’wa’chi Ni’yaw Nation (Kelly Lake Cree Nation), G has put together a selection of rich and moving books, podcasts, music, films and art that capture the stories and hard truths of Indigenous people.
To read:
- Indigenous Writes, by Chelsea Vowel. This must-read work breaks down common stereotypes about Indigenous Peoples and unpacks political and legal issues in an easy-to-digest manner
- Birdie, by Tracey Lindberg. As'in'i'wa'chi Ni'yaw Nation citizen Tracey wrote this bold and unforgettable book as a love letter to the women in her family
To listen:
- Coffee with My Ma - Kaniehtiio Horn. Kaniehtiio Horn sits down at the kitchen table with her Mom, Kahn-Tineta Horn, who tells stories of her past adventures
- Stories from a Downtown Apartment - Celeigh Cardinal. This 2019 release earned Celeigh the 2020 Juno Award for Indigenous Artist of the Year
To see:
- Monkey Beach. Director Loretta Todd’s 2020 interpretation of Haisla and Heiltsuk First Nation’s writer Eden Robinson is rich, evocative and nuanced. A must see
- Christi Belcourt. One of the most well known Indigenous artists of this generation.
