“More difficult for Canadians to come home”

January 22 - At his COVID-19 briefing on January 22nd Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated his message against non-essential travel, including not just winter trips that might have been planned for the next several weeks, but also travel during Spring Break.

Our message remains clear. No one should be taking a trip right now,” said Trudeau.

On January 19, as reported in Travelweek Daily, Trudeau said the federal government could impose new restrictions without advance notice at any time, and told Canadians that if they have plans to travel this winter, “cancel your trip.

He followed that up again today, saying that when it comes to security amid the COVID-19 pandemic, “we are not excluding anything.

He hinted that more travel restrictions could be coming, saying that travel and borders were discussed with the premiers at yesterday’s First Ministers Meeting. “We will be telling you more in the days to come,” he said.

A reporter asked: “Wouldn’t it be a good idea to tell us today?

In his response, Trudeau said: “We will perhaps be implementing new measures without any warning and they will make it much more difficult for Canadians to come home.

He said: “We will have more to say on that in the coming days.
