October 27 - Canada’s major airlines have updates for Canadian travellers and the travel trade as Hurricane Melissa is set to make landfall on Jamaica on October 27, and could also impact Cuba, Turks and Caicos and other parts of the Caribbean.
Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay closed on October 26, with a planned reopening at 12 noon on October 29.
Air Canada has triggered its flexible rebooking policy for flights October 27, 28 and 29 to several destinations: Kingston, Jamaica (October 27, 28 and 29), Montego Bay (October 28 and 29), Varadero (October 28 and 29), Cayo Coco (October 28 and 29), San Salvador (October 28) and Providenciales (October 29). WestJet has also issued a flexible booking update, for flights to Kingston and Montego Bay (October 25 – 29), and also for Holguin (October 27 – 29). More information for WestJet can be found here.
Air Transat is operating repatriation flights today from Holguin back to Montreal (TS9467 and TS 9357) and Toronto (TS99555). Transat’s Hurricane Policy applies to flights scheduled on October 31 to Holguin from Montreal and Toronto. More information is here.
Sunwing Vacations’ alert notes that WestJet flights servicing Sunwing Vacations customers within the closure period for Sangster Airport have been cancelled.
As Sunwing Vacations notes: “Customers currently in Jamaica who were scheduled to return to Canada on a cancelled flight will be advised of their new flight details as soon as they are rescheduled. For additional assistance in destination, travellers are encouraged to contact their local Nexus Tours rep or use the Sunwing app for real-time updates. Please note that in-person representation may be limited due to the hurricane.”
