Someone better alert Google Maps because Air Transat has just renamed the Atlantic Ocean.
On April 1, the airline has announced that it is officially changing the name of the Atlantic Ocean to the Canadien Ocean, effective immediately.
The new name will be featured in onboard announcements across Air Transat’s network. To rally nationwide support, the company is launching a petition to make the rebranding permanent on official governmental documents and maps.
Passengers on board Air Transat’s very first flight over the newly named Canadian Ocean were among the first to celebrate the initiative. They were treated to commemorative certificates and the first official in-flight announcement, marking the historic moment. Air Transat will fly up to 184 crossings over the Canadian Ocean each week.
Air Transat will be unveiling the name change to the broader public in Toronto’s Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas Square).
Travellers can fly Canadien over the Canadien Ocean by booking at airtransat.com or with their travel advisor.
