Baja California Sur is now charging a tax on foreign visitors to support sustainable travel throughout the Mexican state.

As of June 30, 2025, all foreign visitors staying in Baja California Sur for more than 24 hours are required to pay what’s called the EMBRACE IT tax, priced at $470 MXN (approximately US$25) per person. The funds will be directed toward environmental conservation, community development and the improvement of tourism infrastructure.

Payment must be made exclusively online through the Travelkore platform, and travellers must present proof of payment at the state’s entry and exit points. The tax applies to all international visitors arriving by land or air at Los Cabos (SJD), Cabo San Lucas (CSL), La Paz (LAP) and Loreto (LTO) airports.

The new measure is being implemented in partnership with Tourist Tax México, S.A. de C.V. (TTMX), using Travelkore’s SaaS technology to streamline the payment process.
