Belize is getting a boost in Canadian airlift this winter with WestJet’s new nonstop service from Winnipeg, one of five new sun routes the airline is launching for the 2026-27 season.

The once-weekly Winnipeg–Belize City service will begin Dec. 14, 2026, operating between Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) and Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE). The new route was announced as part of WestJet’s broader winter network expansion, which also includes new nonstops from Calgary to Mérida, Mexico, Winnipeg to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Regina to San José del Cabo, Mexico, and Ottawa to Liberia, Costa Rica.

“These additions support the growing demand for options in Mexico and the Latin Caribbean, while sustainably expanding our schedule and managing our fleet during the peak winter travel season,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “We are excited to offer more ways for guests to trade their snow boots for sandals in the destinations that matter most to them, and we look forward to the travel stories that will take off from these exciting new options.”

The new Winnipeg–Belize City service complements WestJet’s existing nonstop flights from Toronto and Calgary, giving Canadian travellers additional access to Belize’s tourism offerings, including the Belize Barrier Reef, Maya archaeological sites, rainforests and wildlife experiences.

According to the Belize Tourism Board, Canada remains one of the destination’s strongest international source markets, with sustained demand for nature-based, cultural and adventure travel. The addition of the Winnipeg route supports its strategy to expand airlift, diversify source markets and make Belize more accessible to international visitors ahead of the 2026-27 winter season.
