Strong holiday travel numbers

The Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur) says nearly 1.3 million are expected for the Easter holidays. Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra says the anticipated number of arriving tourists throughout the state is very positive.

“For Easter we expect more than 1.2 million tourists. We are expecting an occupancy rate of over 82 percent. This is especially important to serve the domestic market, which given the complications due to the lack of aircraft to reach our destinations, continues to look for ways to visit the Mexican Caribbean,” said Cueto Riestra.

He says regardless of airline complications, they are expecting a significant arrival from the domestic market, surpassing last year’s figures adding that the North American travel market remains strong.

“In March 2025 more than 700,000 Americans visited the state compared to the 400,000 registered five years ago. This demonstrates that this market has reported significant growth thanks to the promotional strategies implemented in different segments,” he said.

The Secretaría de Turismo de Quintana Roo (Sedetur) says the state is working closely with various consulates to ensure greater security for tourists since 67 percent arrive from abroad.

“We will continue coordinating with the consulates to guarantee the excellent attention, protection and experience we are providing to tourists. Most travelers continue to return because they find favorable conditions and a safe destination,” he said.

Cueto Riestra reported that during the week of March 15-21, the Mexican Caribbean registered more than 500,000 tourists and a hotel occupancy rate of 84.7, therefore, expectations for the official Easter travel week are high.

According to Cueto Riestra, 1,290,000 tourists are expected during Semana Santa or Holy Week. This year, the Easter holidays run April 13 to April 20.
