Quintana Roo recovers quickly after Hurricane Beryl's impact

The entire state of Quintana Roo is back on its feet after being hit by Hurricane Beryl. The category 2 hurricane slammed the region Friday morning, leaving behind flooded streets, downed trees and communities without electricity.

Clean up began Friday afternoon as soon as Beryl left the state. By Saturday, major roads had been cleared of debirs, water and electricity normalized and flooded streets drained.

State airports also resumed normal operations as did all forms of public transportation including ferry services. Two cruise ships docked at the island of Cozumel Saturday, arriving with more than 7,000 passengers.

Governor Mara Lexama says the state is back on its feet and ready to welcome tourists from around the world. There are still around 300,000 tourists in the state enjoying the Mexican Caribbean.

Lezama says CFE has fully restored power across the state and that 19 cruise ships are scheduled to dock Cozumel next week. The state recovered in two days after being hit by Category 2 Hurricane Beryl early Friday morning north of the town of Tulum.
