Peter Greenberg shares some of his favorite finds and local hangouts

When travel expert Peter Greenberg comes to town, he’s always on the lookout for hidden gems. After his most recent visit to Los Cabos, he shared some of his favorite finds and local hangouts.

Within minutes of the San José del Cabo Estuary, Los Tamarindos has fully embraced the philosophy of farm-to-table dining. Located in a 19th-century farmhouse on an organic farm, this restaurant and cooking school honors local ingredients in the most inspirational ways. Gather crops from the garden that later show up on your plate, dine on fish caught by local fishermen and savor chicken straight from the farm — all presented with generations-old recipes and thoughtful techniques.

Though he always encourages travelers to get out and explore beyond their resort, Peter points out that Montage Los Cabos “got it just right.” Resting on 39 acres along Santa Maria Bay, this resort’s spacious surroundings ensure natural social distancing, and its dedicated staff goes above and beyond. Select from several dining venues — from modern Mexican to contemporary Thai — and spend time in the acclaimed Spa Montage where wellness treatments are inspired by the environment.

Deep in the summer and autumn months, the beaches of Los Cabos become the nesting grounds for sea turtles, before the little hatchlings make their way to the sea. “It’s visually staggering,” says Peter, and he recommends reaching out to local resorts and organizations such as Cabo Outfitters in order to lend a helping hand.

When in Los Cabos, he suggests one photo op that everyone should seek out: the sun setting into the sea from Sunset Monalisa. It may be a guidebook staple, but there’s a good reason for that! Grab your seat at the open-air restaurant, order your favorite vacation cocktail and delight in Mediterranean cuisine while the setting sun washes the horizon in a kaleidoscope of colors.

Craving more local flavors? Check out more of Peter’s recommended spots like Baja Brewing Company, the first microbrewery in Baja California Sur. In the heart of San José del Cabo’s Art District, La Lupita Taco & Mezcal offers authentic flavors such as cactus paddle salad and Baja scallop tacos. And just north of San José del Cabo is Flora Farms, an organic farm spanning 25 acres where you can dine, shop and stay in a serene setting.

Become your own travel detective when you get out and explore Los Cabos. Find everything from the top attractions to insider experiences, whether you’re in search of local culinary discoveries, outdoor adventures or wellness-focused activities around the region.
