News / Demand for Los Cabos from Canada hits new heights: Esponda
Canada now represents nearly 20% of all visitors to Los Cabos, says the tourism board’s managing director, Rodrigo Esponda

Travel to Los Cabos from Canada is booming, judging by the latest stats from the Los Cabos Tourism Board.
Canada now represents nearly 20% of all visitors to Los Cabos, says the tourism board’s managing director, Rodrigo Esponda.
Travel originating from Calgary increased more than 21% year over year, making it the fastest-growing major Canadian gateway to the destination. Toronto-origin travel was up by more than 15%.
“Canada continues to be a priority market for Los Cabos, and we’re encouraged by the sustained growth we’re seeing from key gateways across the country,” says Esponda. “As the destination continues to welcome significant investments like Amanvari and benefit from expanded connectivity, we’re equally focused on supporting our travel advisor partners through education and engagement so they can confidently match clients with the exceptional experiences available throughout Los Cabos.”
As Esponda noted during a Toronto briefing this past March, Los Cabos is well served from Canada when it comes to lift. And starting this winter Air Canada and WestJet will be joined by Porter Airlines and Air Transat on Los Cabos routes. On Nov. 16 Porter will launch new nonstop service from Toronto (three times weekly) and Edmonton (four times weekly), followed by Ottawa (twice weekly) beginning Dec. 18. Air Transat will introduce weekly nonstop service from Montreal beginning Dec. 10.
In hotel news, reservations are now open for Amanvari, ahead of the property’s Aug. 1 debut. Marking Aman’s first resort in Mexico, the ultra-luxury retreat offers 18 casitas within the exclusive Costa Palmas community on Baja’s East Cape. Each 883-square-foot casita blends indoor and outdoor living through expansive terraces, a private heated pool and outdoor shower.
Guests will have access to the Costa Palmas community, including close to five kilometres of swimmable beachfront, 18 acres of organic orchards and farms, a Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course and a private marina and yacht club.
Esponda says the tourism board is looking forward to hosting face-to-face meetings with the trade in Ottawa on Aug. 20 and Edmonton on Aug. 21 as part of its North American roadshow.
