Over 600,000 visitors are expected to visit Cancun and Riviera Maya over the next 2 weeks

March 31 - More than 600,000 visitors are expected to hit the beaches of Cancun and Riviera Maya over the next two weeks. The hotel sector has reported occupation rates of up to 60 percent with the arrival of the holiday season.

 

The Cancun International Airport has also been busy with 1,260 air operations over the weekend. Airport managing company ASUR says flights are from various destinations in the United States and Mexico as well as Frankfurt, Bogotá, Madrid, Lisbon, Caracas, Guatemala, Paris, Buenos Aires and Panama.

 

Lizzie Cole, executive director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo said that in the last 14 days, they have begun to experience occupation rates in excess of 45 percent in Cancun and that this past weekend, there was an increase of 15 percent, for 60 percent sustainably from Friday to Sunday.

 

The state Secretariat of Tourism announced that hotels in Riviera Maya are at 32.1 percent, Cozumel at 51 percent and Grand Costa Maya at 29.8 percent.

 

Quintana Roo governor, Carlos Joaquin, says they are anticipating the arrival of approximately 600,000 tourists for the Easter holiday season.
