Ministry of Tourism reports bustling cruise activity in both ports for the month

The ports of Cozumel and Mahahual hosted more than 200 cruise ships in January. According to the Ministry of Tourism, during the month of January, Cozumel hosted 151 ships while Costa Maya (Mahahual) hosted 66.

Between the two, a total of 217 vessels arrived at Quintana Roo piers. The 2024 figures for January are a slight increase over January of 2023 when 203 cruise ships docked at Quintana Roo ports.

Quintana Roo remains the leader of cruise ships in the world. During the month of January, we had the highest rate of arrivals since the post-COVID recovery with 217 ships arriving at the ports of Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mahahual,” said Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

She pointed out that this important recovery of nautical cruise tourism also represents economic growth both in terms of earnings and in the generation of jobs for people, one of the objectives of the New Agreement for Welfare and Development.

In 2023 alone 1,500 cruise ships carrying more than 6 million cruise passengers arrived in the state.

Last week, more than 90,000 cruise passengers arrived on the island of Cozumel with the arrival of 33 luxury vessels.
