Enhanced quality and positive guest experiences have helped rebuild strong confidence in promoting Cuba as a travel destination

In July 2025, the Canadian market saw a notable rise in tourism to Cuba compared to previous years. By the end of the month, 50,083 Canadian visitors had travelled to the Caribbean island, marking an impressive 112.34% increase from 2024, according to Lessner Gómez, the Cuban Tourism counsellor based in Toronto.

While data from the National Statistics and Information Office shows that the total number of visitors from Canada during the first seven months of 2025 (478,388) is still below the 622,204 recorded in the same period last year, this growth reflects the Cuban tourism industry’s ongoing efforts to revive its key market. Gómez highlights that this summer’s recovery is thanks to improvements across Cuba’s tourist destinations and hotels. Enhanced quality and positive guest experiences have helped rebuild strong confidence in promoting Cuba as a travel destination.

Gómez also points out that current visitor numbers are quite close to those seen in 2019, which is encouraging. He anticipates a promising winter season with Canadian tourists, who continue to show trust in Cuba’s attractions—its sunny beaches, rich culture, and warm hospitality.

Additionally, repeat visitors remain a significant part of this trend, showing sustained interest in returning to Cuba.

In recent months, executives from Cuban and international hotel chains like Meliá, Muthus, and Blau have been visiting several Canadian cities. They’ve been sharing updates with tour operators, travel agents, and airlines to promote Cuba’s tourism offerings and strengthen connections with the Canadian market.
