Mexico finished the year with more than 31 million international visitors. The head of the Ministry of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that from January to November 2021, a flow in excess of 31.6 million international travelers were counted on international flights.
Torruco Marqués released the January to November results, noting the 2021 figure is 76.5 percent more than the same time frame in 2020. He said that during the month of November, 3,725,000 passengers arrived from international destinations, a 12.9 percent increase from the month before.
Of the November figures, he also pointed out an increase of 4.5 percent in domestic passengers over the month of October.
During the January to November period, Torruco Marqués said the main Mexican carriers of international travelers were Volaris and Aeroméxico, which together moved more than 6.6 million travelers, an 85 percent increase over the same period in 2020.
He said that in November of 2021, the main U.S. carriers arriving in Mexico were American Airlines with with 534,932 passengers and United Airlines with 452,967 travelers, both of whom, reflected significant increases over the previous month.
Figures from the month of December were not yet ready when the report was released.
Torruco Marqués has also released flight schedules for 2022, which he says, total more than 190,000 into Mexico. Leading the way in 2022 with scheduled flights is Cancun with 56,951 flights.
