The United States says it has extended restrictions on non-essential travel at its land borders with Canada and Mexico until September 21

The United States says it has extended restrictions on non-essential travel at its land borders with Canada and Mexico until September 21, despite Canada’s decision to open its border to vaccinated Americans.

To minimize the spread of Covid-19, including the Delta variant, the United States is extending restrictions on non-essential travel at our land and ferry crossings with Canada and Mexico through September 21, while continuing to ensure the flow of essential trade and travel,” wrote the US Department of Homeland Security.

The dates for the reopening of the border between Mexico and the United States have been postponed since March of 2020, due to the pandemic.

In bilateral meetings, Mexico has requested that the United States reopen the land border, but without success.

Canada, meanwhile, reported that it would begin allowing fully vaccinated visitors from its southern neighbor beginning August 9.
