News / State tourism council says 1.5 million expected for holiday season
Director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, said that the current positive figures are not by chance, but by joint work carried out between authorities and private initiatives
More than 1.5 million tourists are expected in the Cancun, Riviera Maya for the holiday season. Darío Flota Ocampo, director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, said that the current positive figures are not by chance, but by joint work carried out between authorities and private initiatives.
Ocampo indicated that the region is beginning to enter the strongest part of the winter season, which is expected to result in higher occupancy rates than those estimated in the middle of the year.
As part of that strategy, he stressed that the government was successful in achieving greater air connectivity, which in December, has been setting single-day operation records at the Cancun International Airport.

“We are recording many days above 500 flight operations, a trend that will continue throughout the remainder of this year,” he said after recalling that 86 percent of the flights lost during the health contingency have already been recovered.
He added that during the current holiday period, approximately 1.5 million tourists are expected, a figure that could equal pre-pandemic numbers.
